About Us

The name comes from a Japan meaning wilcat, it derives from the Iriomote-yamaneko (西表山猫), a critically endangered wildcat subspecies from Ioromote Island in Okinawa.

Yamaneko-Ryu Karate is a traditional martial arts school dedicated to developing skilled, disciplined and confident martial artists through the study of Karate, practical application and self-defence.

Our approach combines the traditional values of discipline, respect, perseverance and personal development with realistic training that prepares students for the demands of modern martial arts. Training encompasses Traditional Karate, Full Contact Karate and practical Self Defence, providing students with a well-rounded understanding of both the art and its application.

Yamaneko-Ryu places emphasis on strong fundamentals, effective technique, physical conditioning, mental discipline and continuous improvement.
